Cap and Hat Embroidery: What Works Best

Jan 26

Embroidered caps read as premium in a way printed caps rarely do. The stitched logo catches light and adds depth. Here is how to plan a cap or hat order, style by style.

Cap styles we embroider

Baseball caps (curved peak)

Classic front-panel embroidery, 6 to 8cm wide. We use a cap frame on the machine for clean, undistorted results.

Snapbacks (flat peak)

Similar front-panel embroidery. The flat peak can also take a small embroidered detail, though this is less common.

Dad caps

Unstructured, relaxed fit. Embroidery sits softer on the fabric. Popular for fashion brands.

5-panel caps

Front embroidery area is narrower (around 6cm max), due to the panel structure.

Beanies

Embroidered on the folded brim, usually 5 to 7cm wide. Works well on ribbed knit; avoid very thin knits which can distort.

Bucket hats

Embroidered on front or side, 5 to 8cm. Wider canvas than baseball caps.

Front-panel embroidery standard

Standard sizing for a baseball cap front:

  • Width: 6 to 9cm
  • Height: up to 5cm
  • Position: centred, 2.5cm from the brim edge
  • Style: logo, wordmark, or initials

Logos with fine detail need to be simplified for this size. See our embroidery process guide for digitising.

3D puff embroidery

A premium option that creates a raised, foam-backed logo. Used on streetwear and premium brand caps.

  • Cost: £2 to £3 extra per cap
  • Minimum order: 25 caps (requires specific setup)
  • Best for: bold simple logos, initials, solid shapes

Not suitable for fine detail or small text.

Thread count and pricing

Stitch count Example Price per cap (before blank)

3,000 to 6,000 Standard front logo £3 to £4.50

Add £25 one-off digitising for a new logo (waived over 50 caps).

Supplying your own caps

Yes, we print on customer-supplied caps. Print-only pricing applies. Common for brands with a specific cap supplier or imported blanks.

Bring 1 or 2 spare caps per 25 units for test stitches and sizing.

Avoid embroidery on these

  • Waterproof or coated caps (needle holes compromise the waterproofing)
  • Very thin knit beanies (distort badly)
  • Paper or hemp sun hats (tear easily)

For these, use heat-applied vinyl or a pin badge instead.
