Stag and hen printing is one of the most common orders at our Putney shop. It almost always comes in late (2 weeks to 48 hours before the event), almost always needs same-day or rush turnaround, and almost always ends up being someone’s favourite photo from the weekend.
Here is how to get it right with minimum stress.
The classic kit
Bride / groom to be:
- 1 T-shirt labelled differently (bigger, louder)
- Often a sash or banner
Everyone else (8 to 15 people):
- Matching T-shirts
- Sometimes matching caps or bucket hats
T-shirt options
Budget version (Gildan Heavy Cotton or Fruit of the Loom):
- £3 blank + £5 print = £8 per shirt
- 10 shirts = £80
Mid range (AWDis or B&C):
- £5 blank + £5 print = £10 per shirt
- 10 shirts = £100
Premium (Stanley/Stella, nicer cut):
- £8 blank + £5 print = £13 per shirt
- 10 shirts = £130
Most stag and hen orders use the budget tier. The shirts get worn once and go into a drawer afterwards; premium feel is not the priority.
Design: keep it simple
A design with fewer elements prints faster and cheaper:
- Bold main text (e.g. “Leicester on Tour”)
- Small sub-text (e.g. “Dave’s Last Weekend”)
- Simple icon or image
- Maybe a date
Complex photo-based designs cost more per shirt and slow down turnaround.
Personalisation
Each person’s name or nickname on the back adds character. Methods:
- Vinyl names (heat-pressed): £2 to £3 per name
- Printed names in DTG: priced into the per-unit cost
- Handwritten signatures around the bride/groom’s shirt: free but takes time

Colour coordination
Common approaches:
- Everyone same colour: classic, simple to organise
- Bride/groom in contrast colour: highlights them in photos
- Rainbow rotation: each person different, more expensive
Black and white are the most forgiving. Bright colours vary in stock; check availability early if you are set on a specific pink or teal.
Other kit
Caps and bucket hats
Embroidered or printed. Typical £10 to £14 per cap including branding. See our cap embroidery guide.
Sashes
Custom-printed ribbon sashes (bride to be, groom’s last ride, etc.). Usually £6 to £12 per sash for 2 to 3 units.
Banners
For the weekend’s Airbnb or hotel room:
- A1 vinyl banner with the group name: £28 to £40
- A3 photo board for entrance: £15
Photo boards
Custom A3 foamex with the group’s name and date for photo backdrops. £25 to £35. Works well for Instagram and group photos.
Turnaround realities
- Same-day: 10 to 15 T-shirts with simple single-sided print, order by 11am
- 48 hours: up to 25 T-shirts with front and back print
- 3 to 5 working days: full kit with caps, shirts, sashes, banner
Common mistakes we see
- Waiting too long: Thursday order for Saturday trip is cutting it fine. Aim for 1 week.
- Unclear design: “something fun with our names” does not print. Bring a sketch or rough concept.
- Missing sizes: confirm size for every person. Guessing XL for everyone is a bad idea.
- Forgetting the bride/groom: specify who they are and make their shirt look different.
- Complex designs on a budget blank: lots of colour on a thin tee can look odd. Match complexity to blank quality.
Budget per person guide
Realistic totals for a group of 10:
- Basic: T-shirt only, simple design: £80 to £100 total (£8 to £10 per person)
- Standard: T-shirt + names + one banner: £130 to £160 total (£13 to £16 per person)
- Full kit: T-shirt + caps + sashes + banner: £250 to £350 total (£25 to £35 per person)
