Why Etsy Sellers Are Switching to DTF Transfers

Screen printing has MOQs of 12 to 24 items. Embroidery is slow and expensive for detail work. DTG printers cost thousands of pounds and need regular maintenance.

DTF transfers solve all three problems. You order a strip of printed film, press it when an order comes in, and ship the finished garment the same day. No MOQ, no large upfront investment, no white ink maintenance.

How It Works for Your Etsy Shop

  1. Create your designs in any software (Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator).
  2. Email or WhatsApp them to us at Printing Planet UK.
  3. We print a gang sheet with all your designs on 60 cm wide PET film at £15 per metre.
  4. You collect from our Putney shop or arrange delivery.
  5. When an Etsy order comes in, peel and press the transfer in under 60 seconds.
  6. Ship the finished garment.

What Gang Sheets Mean for Your Per-Unit Cost

Say you have 8 different designs at roughly A4 size each. You fit them all on one metre of film at £15.

That is roughly £1.87 per design. Even with your blank garment cost and a few minutes of pressing time, your total production cost per item stays comfortably below what you can sell for on Etsy.

Compare that to screen printing at a minimum of £3 to £5 per colour even at MOQs, or DTG printing at £5 to £8 per shirt at a service bureau.

No Minimum Order Quantity

Many transfer suppliers require you to order dozens of the same design. With a gang sheet you can have one of each design, or any mix you like, on a single metre strip.

If a design starts selling well, you can reorder just that one design next time and gang it up to fill the metre.

Storing Your Transfers

Transfers store flat or gently rolled for up to 6 months with no quality loss. Keep them away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. This means you can order ahead when you have time and press on demand as orders arrive, rather than rushing to print every week.

What Etsy Sellers Need for DTF

  • A heat press (entry-level 38 x 38 cm models start from around £100 to £150)
  • Or a household iron on the cotton/linen setting for occasional use
  • A silicone sheet or baking parchment
  • Blank garments in the sizes your listings offer

If you are just starting out, an iron works fine while you test your product range. Once you have consistent sales, a heat press pays for itself quickly.

Artwork Tips for Etsy Designs

  • Export all designs as transparent PNG files at 300 DPI
  • Include all variations of a design in one file so we can gang them efficiently
