DTF Transfers vs DTF Printing: What Is the Difference?

The Short Answer

DTF transfers (also called supply-only transfers): we print the design onto film and hand it to you. You press it onto garments yourself at home or in your studio.

DTF printing (also called print-and-press or DTF garment printing): we print the design and press it onto your garment for you. You hand us blank garments and collect finished printed items.

Same underlying technology, different endpoint.

DTF Transfers: Supply Only

When you order DTF transfers from us, the end product is a strip of PET film with your designs printed on it. You take it away and apply it yourself with a heat press or iron.

This is ideal if you:

  • Run your own custom garment business and press in bulk
  • Sell on Etsy, Shopify, or TikTok Shop and fulfil orders yourself
  • Want to keep printing costs down by doing the labour yourself
  • Need a large volume of transfers to press over time (transfers store well for up to 6 months)

We charge a flat £15 per metre of 60 cm wide film. No setup fee. Gang up as many designs as you like on each metre strip.

DTF Printing: Full Service

When you bring us garments and ask us to press the transfers onto them, that is our direct-to-film printing service. We handle the printing, pressing, and quality check. You collect finished, ready-to-sell garments.

This is ideal if you:

  • Do not own a heat press
  • Want a hands-off, one-stop service
  • Are ordering a small batch where buying transfers and pressing yourself would not save time
  • Need matching labels, folding, or other finishing alongside printing

Can You Do Both?

Yes. Some customers order transfers for their regular repeat designs and also bring us garments for occasional rush jobs when their press is busy.

Which Is Cheaper?

Transfers are cheaper per print when you do your own pressing. For low volumes where your time has a high value, the full-service option may work out better overall.
